Hunger knows no season.  There is often a greater need for food in the summer months when children are not in school and receiving breakfast or lunch through federal programs.  Any nonperishable food items are greatly appreciated.  We also accept (in some areas) fresh fruits and vegetables and some other perishable foods.  Please call your local food pantry for information on what they are able to accept.  Coolers and freezers are limited in some areas.

SVDP pantries throughout the Upper Peninsula and in Florence, WI greatly appreciate the food drives held by the U.S. Postal Service, individual parishes and churches, Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, local grocery stores and many individuals who regularly donate food to help the hungry.  If you would like to sponsor a food drive, please call your local SVDP pantry for information.

Some parishes collect one particular item each month so there will be enough on hand to give each family the needed food, paper goods or cleaning items.

For example: January - canned stews

                     February - soups and crackers

March - spaghetti or Alfredo sauce and pasta

                     April - pudding and jello

May - canned fruits or vegetables

June - peanut butter and jellies

July - canned tuna and salmon

August - personal products (toothbrushes, toothpaste,

                                  deodorant)

September - paper product (paper towels, toilet paper,

                                  kleenex)

                     October - jams and jellys

November - holiday foodstuffs (canned potatoes,

                                  stuffing mix, etc.)

December - cereals (oatmeal, boxed cereals,

                                 cream of wheat, etc.)
